Okay, for all of you naive folks back home watching Fox News (or "Fox Noise" as one of my clients put it today)... here is a lesson in what's ACTUALLY going on down here in beautiful Cabo San Lucas (as opposed to the propaganda they are broadcasting back home!).
According to an article recently published by Christopher Reynolds of the LA Times, drug related killings for ALL of Baja California Sur (yeah, the WHOLE state, not just the Los Cabos area) tallied up to a whopping 6 for the whole first 1/2 of 2010. Break down those numbers and you'll find that this works out to 1.06 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. Hmmm... still thinking 1/100,000 is a lot? Well let's see how that compares to the homicide rates of the world's "SAFEST" countries shall we?
Canada = 1.7 per 100,000
Peru = 3.2 per 100,000
Argentina = 5.2 per 100,000
USA = 5.2 per 100,000
Uruguay = 5.8 per 100,000
Chile = 8.1 per 100,000
Rest of the world = ? (here's a hint... it just gets worse!!)
Just a little food for thought people, as the truth can be an astonishing thing sometimes. Perhaps the next time you tell someone you're coming to Cabo and they incredulously ask you "Why risk your life in Mexico?", you can educate them with the REAL facts about what is going on down here. Oh, and smack them in the back of the head for me will ya?
